Information about OFTP2

The OFTP communication protocol is developed in Europe for the manufacturing and automotive industries - for EDI, transfer of standardised business communication. In the last 20 years the Protocol has achieved a large geographic spread, and is widely used in other industries such as commerce, customs and transport.

OFTP2 is the new version of OFTP and is adapted for communication over open networks (Internet) with security functions for areas such as session encryption, digital signature and file encryption.

During 2010 many companies, led by Volvo and Scania in Sweden will start rolling out OFTP2 and migrate their communication from X.25 and ISDN to TCP/IP. Something that speeds up the process here in Sweden is Telia Sonera’s planned closure of the ISDN service from 2011.

At PipeChain we have monitored and participated in this development and have already implemented several OFTP2 relationships for a number of our customers
That means we are already able to offer solutions for both new and existing customers . Below you’ll find information intended for our current customers in the first instance, and for all companies who have questions regarding OFTP2, secure communication and how to prepared for it. Simply mail to our OFTP2 team at oftp2@pipechain.com.

We will continually answer questions and publish them here in our OFTP2 FAQ, so please keep checking for updated information.
If you are not currently a customer of ours or want to discuss what products and services we offer, feel free to contact our sales department directly. You’ll find all the contact details below.

Customers with Odex Enterprise

For people already using Odex Enterprise, all you need is an update to version 2.4.0.1182 to start using OFTP2. This update is covered by the current service agreement.

To be able to start using the Internet (TCP/IP) as a communication carrier you will also need:

Step 1
  • Make sure you have a fixed external IP address
  • Connect this IP to a DNS address, (e.g. oftp2.mycompanyname.com )
  • Open ports 3305 (OFTP) and 6619 (TLS) and map (”forward”) these from the firewall to the Odex server.
Your IT department or ISP (Internet Service Provider) can help you with this.

Step 2 To use the security functions in OFTP2:
  • Order and install a security certificate on the Odex server
You can find a list of approved CA (Certificate Accreditors) on both Volvo’s and ODETTE’s web sites. See below. . ODETTE can also issue certificates.

Customers with Odex Windows or Odex PRO

The above instructions apply but you first need to upgrade to Odex Enterprise, which is a larger step and can mean changing hardware, etc.

Contact our Sales Department for more information about this.

We have sent out information regarding upgrades during December 2009 but you may have missed this. Please contact us and we will gladly send the updates to you.
