The new digital tools for eCommerce

We are one year into the covid-19 pandemic and there is no doubt that the supply chain industry is changing and adapting to the new landscape. And more importantly, to a post-pandemic world.

While many of these changes are temporary or quick fixes, some are likely to become foundational aspects of the future supply chains in the coming years.

New digital hights

While the rise of ecommerce is nothing new. The demand for online purchasing was already on a strong trajectory leading up to 2020, customers were ordering everything from food and medication to clothes and electronics. But with the arrival of the pandemic and the following quarantine restrictions in public places and an increase in home offices have increased demand and created pressure on the supply chain.

This capacity crunch that emerged from this steep raise in demand, combined with disruptions in for example logistics, supplier inventory and volatile predictions, made it a real challenge for many companies to keep their inventory levels stable and their products flowing on time.

As a result of this, as is the case of most crisis, companies have adapted to these challenges by adopting new ideas and technologies. For many companies, these coming years will be the first time they truly experience first-hand contact in these new digital tools. Which will help them navigate the market, increase supply chain visibility and resilience and to create value.

Full Inbound Control – a tool for supply chain collaboration

One of the big reasons for the grave impact of the pandemic was due to the supply chain complexity of many companies. They can have thousands of different suppliers, spread all over the globe, a myriad of different articles and of top of that factories and warehouses in different locations.

While most companies can handle the day-to-day minor deviations and challanges involving these factors, they usually lack the necessary digitalization in their supply chain processes to handle larger disruptions, such as a major pandemic, in an optimal manner.

A digital tool such as Full Inbound Control allows companies to build up their supply chain resilience by taking a deviancy focused approach, which frees up resourses to handle issues in the supply chain. Furthermore, it also covers the important aspect of digital collaboration with material suppliers along the supply chain – From Forecast through Order and Inbound transportation to Invoice.
