The Supply Shipments Cube

Fact Table Grain

At each snapshot, one row is created in the fact table for every delivery that was finished (fully received) since the last snapshot was taken. Each row contains information on measures connected with a particular Delivery ID (Delivery dimension), a particular stock keeping unit (Product dimension), the customer site to or the supplier site from whom the delivery was made (Business Node dimension) and the date and time of reception (Time dimension).

A large number of measures has been defined for the cube in order to capture how various attributes of delivery suggestions change when the suggestions are confirmed, and how attributes of deliveries change when they are shipped or received by the customer. Thanks to these measures, you can obtain information about quantity, receipt time, shipment time and lead time for each individual delivery.

Dimensions

Eleven dimensions are available in the Supply Shipment cube. They are Business Node ("per Site" and "with Sites"), Delivery Note, Delivery Unit, Order Type, PipeChain Order, Product, Purchase Order, Sales Order and Time (by "Month" or "Week"). You can use the dimensions simultaneously by analyzing combinations of the options listed below.

Some hierarchical dimensions have a "Delivery Key" level at the bottom. This enables the user to drill all the way down to a single record, which is necessary for some of the measures (shipment times and reception times).

Business Node per SiteWith this dimension you can analyze the shipments by supplier/customer and supplier/customer group, per site.

Business Node with SitesWith this dimension you can analyze the shipments by supplier/customer and supplier/customer group, aggregated over all sites.

Delivery Id – With this dimension you can you can choose to view the results of one or all Delivery Id. The dimension has an auto-generated level to simplify the search, and a Delivery Key level at the bottom.

Delivery Note – With this dimension you can you can choose to view the results of a single Delivery Note or all Delivery Notes. The dimension has an auto-generated level to simplify the search, and a Delivery Key level at the bottom.

Delivery ResponsibilityWith this dimension you can separate deliveries where the Partner Agreement specifies responsibility "until Shipment" from ditto "until Reception". This is especially useful for Delivery Precision, but only applicable if your environment has both responsibility cases.

Delivery Unit – With this dimension you can analyze the result of specific delivery units.

Order Type – With this dimension you can analyze the inventory of specific order types. The Order Type  dimension is particularly useful as a filter, e.g. to avoid SMI cases when analyzing the Delivery Precision measure.

PipeChain Order, Purchase Order, Sales OrderWith these dimensions you can view the results of single order id, an order line or all orders. The dimensions have an auto-generated level to simplify the search, and a Delivery Key level at the bottom.

ProductWith this dimension you can analyze the result of shipments by individual products, product groups, sites or all products.

Time Month/WeekBy navigating between different levels in this dimension, you can choose to view the results of shipments made at different periods of time. Drill up or down between either Year - Quarter - Month - Day or Year - Week - Day.

Source Data for the Supply Shipments Cube

Before you can understand the definitions of the measures and calculated members used in the Supply Shipments cube, you need to know a number of variables that are used as source data for the cube. This detail data is also available in the cube. The quantity data can be averaged or summed, but the time data is not possible to aggregate, thus it is only visible when drilled down to an individual delivery (using the Delivery Id, Delivery Note or one of the three Order dimensions).

  • ReceiptTime - Demandthe receipt time that PipeChain has calculated in the delivery suggestion.

  • ReceiptTime - Suggested  – the receipt time sent to the order system. The user may have changed the receipt time manually before the delivery suggestion was sent to the order system for confirmation.

  • ReceiptTime - FirstConfirmed the receipt time which was first confirmed by the order system or manually.

  • ReceiptTime - LastConfirmed -  if the receipt time was changed after being confirmed, this is the last confirmed receipt time. If not, it is the same as FirstConfirmed.

  • ReceiptTime - Announced  - the receipt time which was stated when shipping the delivery.

  • ReceiptTime - Receivedthe time when the customer actually registered the delivery as fully received.

  • Shipment Time - Demandthe shipment time that PipeChain has calculated in the delivery suggestion.

  • Shipment Time - Suggestedthe shipment time sent to the order system. The user may have changed the shipment time manually before the delivery suggestion was sent to the order system for confirmation.

  • Shipment Time - FirstConfirmed the shipment time which was first confirmed by the order system or manually.

  • Shipment Time - LastConfirmed - if the shipment time was changed after being confirmed, this is the last confirmed shipment time. Otherwise, it is the same as FirstConfirmed.

  • Shipment Time - First Shipmentthe actual time when the delivery was shipped.

  • Shipment Time - Last Shipmentif the whole delivery quantity is shipped at one occasion, the value of Last Shipment equals First Shipment. If the delivery is split into several shipments, Last Shipment is the last time when a shipment belonging to this delivery was made.

  • Avg Qty (units) - Demandthe quantity that PipeChain has calculated that the customer needs, based on inventory and demand information from the customer. Averaged.

Delivery Precision

When analyzing Delivery Precision, you normally use the Order Type  dimension as a filter. This is used to avoid SMI products, for which you generally prefer the Service Level measure.

There are three combined KPIs which show the percentage of "correct" deliveries (order lines): Demand Fulfillment, Delivery Precision (First Confirmed) and Delivery Precision (Last Confirmed). Here, the date and quantity of the Demand, First Confirmation and Last Confirmation are compared to the actual date and quantity. Depending on the supplier's responsibility (Terms of Delivery) "actual" means either shipment time or receipt time. The Delivery Responsibility dimension (see above) is used to separate these cases. What is considered "correct" is controlled by the Deviation Limit settings in PipeChain Supply.

Note that it is possible to EXCLUDE certain business nodes and products from Delivery Precision measures. This is configured in PipeChain Supply, per Business Agreement or Delivery Agreement. Typically, you may want to exclude a new supplier in a start-up phase. Cancelled deliveries are also excluded.

  • Demand Fulfillment (%) - Day and Qty within limits (Demand vs Shipped/Received) – the percentage of correctly handled deliveries. Demand quantity is compared to actual Delivered quantity, and Demand day is compared to actual Delivery day. Depending on the supplier's Delivery Responsibility, Delivery here means either Shipment  or Receipt. The time zone of the shipping part is used for shipment time comparison etc. The delivery is considered correct if both comparisons are within the combined Demand and Confirmation Deviation Limit settings in PipeChain Supply.

  • Delivery Precision  FC (%) - Day and Qty within limits (FirstConfirmed vs Shipped/Received) – the percentage of correctly handled deliveries. FirstConfirmed quantity is compared to actual Delivered quantity, and FirstConfirmed day is compared to actual Delivery day. Depending on the supplier's Delivery Responsibility, Delivery here means either Shipment  or Receipt. The time zone of the shipping part is used for shipment time comparison etc. The delivery is considered correct if both comparisons are within the Confirmation Deviation Limit settings in PipeChain Supply.

  • Delivery Precision  LC (%) - Day and Qty within limits (LastConfirmed vs Shipped/Received) – the percentage of correctly handled deliveries. LastConfirmed quantity is compared to actual Delivered quantity, and LastConfirmed day is compared to actual Delivery day. Depending on the supplier's Delivery Responsibility, Delivery here means either Shipment  or Receipt. The time zone of the shipping part is used for shipment time comparison etc. The delivery is considered correct if both comparisons are within the corresponding Deviation Limit settings in PipeChain Supply. This is the KPI generally known as Delivery Precision.

Delivery Deviation Details: Lead Time

The definition of actual lead time is “the receipt time – the shipment time – the number of whole non-business days in the interval, according to the supplier’s business calendar”. To obtain correct measurements of the lead time precision, only the supplier’s (i.e. your own) business calendar is taken into account. Please note, however, that from a logistical perspective, it might be wrong to consider only your own calendar and not the customer’s.

  • Avg Diff (hours) - Lead Time – the difference in hours between the actual lead time and the lead time that has been set up in PipeChain.

  • Avg Diff Abs (hours) - Lead Time – the absolute value of Avg Diff Abs (hours) - Lead Time.

  • Avg Diff  (%) - Lead Time – the percentage difference between the actual lead time and the lead time that has been set up in PipeChain (LT), calculated as ABS (actual lead time – LT) /  LT.
