Transition to the new import system

For some time now, a work of change has been underway within the EU, which aims for all information transfer between companies and customs authorities to be done electronically. The objective of the new common EU customs legislation is to coordinate customs management within the Union, which should ultimately become easier, cheaper and faster. A fully digital exchange of information also makes it easier for customs administrations to carry out their assignment with control and risk analysis activities efficiently.

The Swedish Customs’ implementation of the changes within the framework of the Union Customs Code (UCC) will be gradual and all changes are expected to be implemented by 2025. The next step to meet the requirements of EU legislation for digital customs management is the new import system of the Swedish Customs, where direct clearance is replaced by standard customs declarations.

New deadline! By December 31 2023 at the latest, all traders must submit standard customs declarations for free circulation electronically to the new customs system. Are you ready?
