Launch of PipeChain’s new environmental add-on feature
In October 2024, the first tests began ahead of the launch of PipeChain’s environmental reporting feature — a tool aimed at making sustainable transport choices easier and more accessible for companies. The feature builds on an effort to shift focus from reactivity to proactivity, allowing companies to actively influence their carbon footprint as early as the transport selection process.
An overview of the feature’s applications
The new feature enables you to map and analyze your transport activities with a level of precision previously lacking. With our support, you can now choose transport options based on environmental impact, and not just price and delivery time. Environmental data is introduced as a new dimension in the decision-making process, allowing you to choose the most eco-friendly mode of transport based on factors like weight, distance, type of transport, and vehicle type.
The companies get direct access to the GHG value at the first overview of the various transport options.
The feature calculates emissions for both incoming and outgoing transports, contributing to a more comprehensive overview of your total environmental impact. By analyzing data on emissions per ton and by transport mode, you can, for example, switch carriers or choose a more eco-friendly transport method.
Each individual transport option shows data on emissions and energy consumption.
You also gain access to a report on your environmental impact, including CO2 emissions, which can be shared in annual reports, shipping documents, invoices, and on internal and external platforms. This supports transparent sustainability work and helps meet the increasing demands from the EU directive CSRD, which aims to enhance transparency and comparability in your reporting of sustainability performance.
On shipping documents, GHG values and other environmental data are compiled transparently.
Now, you can act proactively by choosing more sustainable transport options from the start. This strengthens your position in future negotiations and underscores your commitment to a sustainable future.
Future usage and potential
A central goal of the new feature is to help you meet future environmental reporting requirements. There is a clear trend toward increasing environmental awareness, where companies not only want to reduce their own environmental impact but also place higher demands on their partners to do the same.
By gaining access to data on the environmental impact of transports, your company can track your total environmental impact over time and assess whether your own and your suppliers’ initiatives have led to the desired results.
This makes it possible to compare changes and requirements, such as the use of biofuels or hybrid vehicles, to help meet environmental goals.
Easy and quick to get started
After a review and support from us, you’ll quickly and easily start using the feature, especially companies that already use PipeChain’s TMS module. All we need access to are your existing transport choices to ensure accurate calculations of your environmental impact.
Summary
With the launch of this feature, the work toward more sustainable and transparent logistics continues. By integrating environmental data into your transport decisions, you gain tools to actively reduce your carbon footprint and communicate your sustainability efforts clearly and effectively to both authorities and the industry.
This is just the beginning of a journey toward a more environmentally conscious market, where you not only adapt to new requirements but actively contribute to positive change.
